Nesses artistieke programma Being in the World (2024-2027) benadrukt het belang van betrokkenheid bij de sociale en ecologische realiteiten om ons heen. Nesse brengt met het residentieprogramma, de werkruimtes en presentaties gedeelde ruimtes tot stand, plekken voor ontmoeting en dialoog.
Met de drie programmalijnen Food and Industry, Sources of Energy en Learning from the Stream nodigen we kunstenaars en ontwerpers uit die zich in hun praktijk verhouden tot wereldlijke vraagstukken binnen de context van Terneuzen. Een stad gelegen aan de Westerschelde, aan het kanaal van Gent-Terneuzen en omringt door industrie en landbouwpercelen. De programmalijnen vormen het uitgangspunt van talloze ontwikkelingstrajecten en krijgen concreet vorm in twee jaarlijkse presentatieprojecten die plaatsvinden in (semi-)publieke ruimtes in en rond Terneuzen.
Nesse’s artistic programme ‘Being in the World’ (2024–2027) emphasises the importance of engagement with the social and ecological realities around us. Through its presentations, Nesse creates shared spaces—places for encounter and dialogue.
With the programme lines Food and Industry, Sources of Energy, and Learning from the Stream, we invite artists and designers to address worldly issues within the context of Terneuzen, a city located on the Western Scheldt, along the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal, and surrounded by industry and agricultural fields. These lines define our ways of Being in the World and are further developed into two yearly presentation projects that take place in (semi-)public spaces in and around Terneuzen.

S&D#025:

S&D#025 is bijna 18 meter hoog en maakt deel uit van de samenwerking tussen Nesse Terneuzen en 019. De afgelopen jaren heeft 019 verschillende vlaggenmasten in België geplaatst, waarbij S&D#025 fungeert als een mobiele tentoonstellingsruimte. Met de plaatsing in Terneuzen wordt er een letterlijke verbinding gelegd met Gent, waar een vergelijkbare vlaggenmast staat nabij de haven.
Kunstenaars en ontwerpers van het residentieprogramma van Nesse zullen vlaggen ontwikkelen voor S&D#025, waardoor hun aanwezigheid in het centrum van Terneuzen zichtbaar wordt.
Wethouder Jeroen de Buck en kinderburgemeester Femke de Haan onthulden op 11 oktober 2024 de eerste vlag gemaakt door Dries Segers. Door de schade aan de vlaggenmast hebben we de vlag van Segers moeten strijken, maar we verwachten deze in 2025 opnieuw te kunnen hijsen.
S&D#025 is almost 18 metres tall and is part of the collaboration between Nesse Terneuzen and 019. In recent years, 019 has installed several flagpoles across Belgium, with S&D#025 serving as a mobile exhibition space. Its installation in Terneuzen creates a literal connection with Ghent, where a similar flagpole stands near the port.
Artists and designers from Nesse’s residency programme will create flags for S&D#025, making their presence visible in the centre of Terneuzen. On 11 October 2024, Councillor Jeroen de Buck and children’s mayor Femke de Haan unveiled the first flag, made by Dries Segers. Due to damage to the flagpole, we had to lower Segers’ flag, but we expect to raise it again in 2025.
